BuildBuddy, a tech start-up aiming to transform the purchase process for construction materials has secured approximately £1 million in funding from investors.
Co-founded by Jamie Menzies and Alix Baldwin, BuildBuddy is an online platform leveraging artificial intelligence to locate the best construction materials at the most competitive prices for the UK’s 330,000 SME builders.
The platform functions similarly to Skyscanner, searching the web for optimal deals and delivery terms, potentially saving builders up to 14% on typical orders.
Menzies, originally from East Lothian, conceived the idea after facing frustrations with material costs while managing his construction company, Zebra Property Group, which operates in Edinburgh and London. Baldwin, previously managing director of price comparison site Funeral Choice, joined Menzies to co-found BuildBuddy. Together, they have raised seed capital to support the broader rollout of their platform.
The team has also brought on board former Skyscanner executive and East Lothian-based tech expert Shane Corstorphine as an advisor.
Menzies stated, “Raising £1 million in seed capital is a significant milestone for BuildBuddy and demonstrates the confidence investors have in our concept. Similar to how Skyscanner assists travelers in finding the best flight deals, BuildBuddy will streamline the purchasing process for construction materials, allowing the UK’s SME builders to obtain the best products at the best prices.”
Corstorphine added, “BuildBuddy is a brilliant idea, and this landmark investment reflects the strong potential for Jamie and Alix to successfully execute their vision.”
