Berlin-based startup, montamo, has successfully concluded a €2.1 million Pre-Seed funding round, with Project A Ventures leading the investment. The company is poised to play a crucial role in advancing the green energy transition by addressing a significant hurdle— the shortage of skilled workers.
Montamo adopts a hybrid strategy, blending specialized training centers with digital solutions. Its primary objective is to train individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly migrants, enabling them to transition into skilled construction roles within the energy sector.
Commencing early next year, seasoned montamo mentors will welcome the inaugural group of career changers to the montamo training center in Munich. Through an intensive six- to eight-week digitalized course, participants will gain qualifications to install heat pumps, receiving a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
Looking ahead, montamo plans to offer B2B installation services, initially focusing on heat pumps, followed by solar power systems and wallboxes. Co-founder Alexander Böhm emphasizes the efficiency of their training programs, accelerated by a robust digital infrastructure catering to multilingual participants.
Böhm expressed, “With montamo, we aim to tap into the untapped talent in Germany, bringing people from diverse cultures together and preparing them for roles in the building trades. Our vision is to become Europe’s leading installation platform in the renewable energy sector.”
Project A Ventures, alongside prominent angel investors, leads the funding round. Mila Cramer from Project A highlights the urgent need for innovative solutions to address Germany’s shortage of 60,000 workers for heat pump energy transition goals by 2030, compounded by the impending retirement of 50 percent of blue-collar workers in the next decade.
Cramer states, “In Alex and Ole, we have found the ideal team with the passion and experience to tackle this challenge, increasing efficiency and generating additional capacity through the training of new workers.”
