One Click LCA, a software provider specializing in sustainability for the construction and manufacturing sectors, has acquired ENVI-met, a leader in microclimate simulation software. This acquisition aims to combine One Click LCA’s environmental impact assessment capabilities with ENVI-met’s urban climate modeling, offering a comprehensive tool for decarbonization and climate-adaptive urban design.
ENVI-met was co-founded by Dr. Michael Bruse and Daniela Bruse in 2014. Their 3D modeling software is widely used by urban planners, architects, and developers to design cities that focus on livability, heat resistance, and overall human comfort.
The urban heat island effect, which causes cities to warm at twice the global average, poses significant challenges. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, by 2050, 1.6 billion city residents will be exposed to extreme heat, affecting health and economic stability. In the U.S. alone, extreme heat currently costs the economy $100 billion annually, with this figure expected to reach $500 billion by mid-century.
Materials such as glass, asphalt, concrete, and steel trap heat in cities, contributing to heat waves and stress. ENVI-met’s software helps professionals design urban environments that are more resilient to heat by simulating how buildings, vegetation, and materials interact with elements like wind and sunlight. These insights can lead to better-informed design decisions that prioritize climate resilience.
Panu Pasanen, CEO and Founder of One Click LCA, remarked, “ENVI-met is a proven leader in microclimate simulation. By joining forces, we can offer more advanced tools to support climate-resilient urban planning. Integrating ENVI-met’s technology with our sustainability platform gives architects and urban planners the tools to create more sustainable and healthier cities.”
Daniela Bruse, CEO and Co-founder of ENVI-met, added, “This partnership brings together two complementary approaches to urban sustainability. The combination of ENVI-met’s environmental simulation and One Click LCA’s life-cycle assessment tools sets a new benchmark in sustainable urban planning. Our shared goal is to help cities adapt to climate change by improving thermal comfort, reducing urban heat, and lowering carbon footprints.”
