Work & Mother, a provider of full-service mother’s room amenities for commercial office buildings, has announced the successful closure of a $3.5 million Series Seed funding round. Building Ventures led the investment, highlighting the increasing demand for such essential workplace services. Founded by Abbey Donnell in Houston, TX, in 2019, Work & Mother has expanded its presence, recently launching in New York in collaboration with TIAA/Nuveen.
Building Ventures, known for its commitment to a sustainable built environment, finds synergy with Work & Mother’s mission to address the needs of nursing mothers in the workplace. The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of workplace amenities, with Work & Mother offering flexibility and support crucial for employee well-being.
Work & Mother’s suite of amenities, including lactation suites and The Hub companion app, has garnered praise from leading commercial real estate owners, enhancing property value in a competitive market. Recent legislation like the federal PUMP Act of December 2023 has further emphasized the necessity of such amenities, making them essential for regulatory compliance and tenant satisfaction.
Abbey Donnell’s vision, combined with her personal experience as a working mother, has shaped Work & Mother’s offerings. Operating akin to a building gym, Work & Mother provides a communal solution benefiting tenants, landlords, and working mothers. This funding round, led by Building Ventures and supported by investors like Claritas Capital, Second Century Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and The Artemis Fund, positions Work & Mother for national expansion, starting with the New York market.
