Wull Technologies, a Manchester-based joint venture focused on sustainable construction materials, has raised £300,000 in funding.
The investment was provided by the University of Manchester Innovation Factory and the GM Advance Fund from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. The company plans to use the funds to bring its flagship insulation product, LAMDA, to market.
LAMDA panels are rigid insulation boards developed using Welsh mountain sheep wool and a green chemistry process that is currently patent pending. Manufacturing takes place in Manchester, using technology developed by material scientists at Vector Labs.
Wull Technologies is a collaboration between Vector Labs and Wool Insulation Wales. This recent round brings its total secured funding to over £500,000, including a previous £214,000 grant awarded through Innovate UK’s REforMM (Resource Efficiency for Materials and Manufacturing) program for early-stage research.
Vector Labs, the technology division of Vector Group, operates out of the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre in Manchester. The group also includes Vector Homes, which develops low-carbon and rapidly assembled housing systems using sustainable materials.
Wool Insulation Wales, based in Neath Port Talbot, was founded by Ruth-Marie Mackrodt and Mair Jones. The company converts Welsh sheep wool into loft insulation rolls, marketed under the brand name Truewool.
Wull Technologies is currently led by commercial director Ruth-Marie Mackrodt and technical director Liam Britnell.
As the new year approaches, the company aims to move forward with commercialization and continue research into bio-based materials for the construction sector.
