Aerwave, a managed WiFi and smart connectivity provider for multifamily communities, has announced the appointment of Michael Burnette as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The move signals the company’s focus on deepening technical capabilities and scaling operations ahead of its next phase of growth.
Burnette brings over two decades of experience in IT strategy, enterprise innovation, and cybersecurity. His career includes leadership roles across managed service providers and technology-focused firms, with a consistent emphasis on operational transformation and secure service delivery.
Most recently, Burnette served as Chief Service Officer at Leapfrog Services, where he managed a 40-person team providing technology support across 31 U.S. states. During his tenure, he established a Security Operations Center, implemented Agile methodologies across departments, and introduced a consulting model that improved client onboarding and retention. His initiatives contributed to Leapfrog winning its first Fortune 500 and PCI-compliant client.
Prior to Leapfrog, Burnette held the CTO role at Frontline Managed Services, a global managed service provider with a focus on legal technology. He led the company’s Agile development efforts and guided its international expansion, including achieving ISO 27001 certification. He also served as the Product Owner for IQTrack, a specialized ITSM platform for law firms.
Earlier in his career, Burnette served as VP of IT at Place Properties and chaired the Operating Committee during the spin-off of Peak Campus Management. He oversaw national-scale technology deployments and managed WiFi service contracts exceeding $10 million annually across student housing portfolios.
Burnette holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degree in the Management of Technology from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Agile Leader, with additional credentials in AI systems and IT service delivery.
He was inducted into the Georgia Tech Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni and currently sits on the External Advisory Board for Georgia Tech’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
