Bedrock Robotics has raised $600 million in a Series C funding round at a post-money valuation of $4.1 billion, as the company scales its autonomous construction equipment across commercial job sites in the United States.

The round was co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, with participation from new investors US Innovative Technology Fund (USIT), Bessemer Venture Partners, and Temasek. Existing investors, including 8VC, Georgian, Valor Equity Partners, Xora, Eclipse, Perry Creek Capital, and NVIDIA, also participated.

The latest financing brings Bedrock Robotics' total funding to nearly $1 billion. The company plans to use the capital to expand commercial deployments, increase the number of machines equipped with its technology, and build the operational infrastructure required to support contractors across the country.

Founded in 2024 and headquartered in San Francisco, Bedrock develops autonomous systems for heavy construction equipment, starting with excavators. Its technology is designed to retrofit existing machines rather than require contractors to replace their fleets entirely.

From Autonomous Technology to Paid Construction Work

Bedrock's latest funding follows a significant milestone for the company. In mid-August 2026, its autonomous excavators began performing paid work on live commercial construction sites.

This moves the technology beyond controlled demonstrations and into operating environments where machines must work alongside construction crews, existing equipment, and established site workflows.

The company is now entering its next phase: expanding deployments to more contractors and building the field operations and commercial infrastructure required to make autonomous equipment dependable in everyday construction.

Bedrock's systems are designed to help contractors put heavy machinery to productive use while improving safety, consistency, and job-site capacity.

The company was founded by former Waymo engineers who worked on autonomous vehicle technology. It is applying that experience to construction, where machines must respond to changing terrain, work requirements, and the unpredictable conditions of live job sites.

Why Construction Is Turning to Automation

The construction industry faces persistent workforce challenges. In its announcement, Bedrock cited estimates that employers will need to fill approximately 1.7 million openings annually through 2035 across the broader workforce, including roles needed to replace workers who retire, change occupations, or leave the field.

The company also cited industry figures showing that 87% of construction firms report openings for hourly craft positions, while 88% say those roles are as hard or harder to fill than a year earlier.

These pressures are encouraging contractors to explore automation as a way to increase capacity without relying entirely on additional labour.

Bedrock's approach is not simply to introduce robots as replacements for existing construction teams. The company says its technology is designed to help experienced crews take on more work, operate more predictably, and improve safety.

The commercial question is whether autonomous equipment can deliver consistent results across different projects, machine types, and operating conditions.

Customer Expansion Across the United States

Bedrock says its total customer volume has more than doubled since 2025. Its expanding customer base includes contractors across multiple US regions.

Haydon, an employee-owned general contractor based in Tempe, Arizona, is the latest partner to deploy Bedrock's technology at a remote site in Texas. The project involves fully autonomous earthwork.

Haydon plans to expand its use of Bedrock-equipped machines across building and heavy civil projects, including work related to advanced manufacturing, transportation, water and wastewater, data centres, and healthcare facilities.

The companies also plan to test additional applications, including trench work and automation for larger machine models.

Other customers named in the announcement include Wagner Construction in Minnesota, Smith Trucking Company in Florida, B&S Site Development in Virginia, Native Excavating in Colorado, Clarkson Construction in Missouri, C.W. Matthews in Georgia, and selected ArchKey Solutions projects in Arkansas.

These deployments extend Bedrock's presence beyond its earlier concentration in the West and Central South, bringing its technology into additional regions.

Retrofitting Existing Equipment

A key part of Bedrock's strategy is retrofitting existing heavy machinery with autonomous technology.

For contractors, replacing entire fleets with purpose-built autonomous machines could require significant capital expenditure and operational changes. Retrofitting offers a different route by bringing autonomous capabilities to equipment already in use.

Bedrock is initially focusing on excavators and intends to develop systems that can eventually support mixed fleets operating across a job site.

Its longer-term vision includes machines that can coordinate their work with one another. Achieving that will require more than autonomous movement: equipment must operate reliably within real construction workflows and respond to changing site conditions.

The current focus is expanding commercial deployments while building the field support and operational systems needed to keep machines productive.

CapitalG and Emergence Capital Back Industrial Scale

CapitalG and Emergence Capital co-led the Series C as Bedrock moves from its first commercial deployments toward broader operations across the United States.

CapitalG general partner Derek Zanutto highlighted the company's progress from technical development to autonomous work on commercial sites. Emergence Capital general partner Jake Saper emphasised the challenge of applying AI to physical industries where labour shortages constrain capacity.

The investment reflects the potential of physical AI: systems that perceive and act in the real world, rather than operate exclusively in digital environments.

Bedrock's challenge now is to translate technical capabilities into dependable commercial services. That means expanding its customer base while developing the people, support operations, and partnerships required to deploy autonomous equipment at scale.

Strengthening Operations and Leadership

Bedrock has expanded its leadership team with two executives to support its growing commercial footprint.

Amy Jones Satrom joins as Vice President of Operations, bringing experience from Amazon, Nuro, and Uber. Lando Juarez joins as General Counsel after leading legal work for Uber's Autonomous Mobility & Delivery business.

Their experience is relevant as Bedrock expands deployments, develops commercial partnerships, and navigates the operational and regulatory considerations associated with autonomous systems.

The appointments reflect the company's move beyond core technology development toward building a full operating business.

What Comes Next for Bedrock Robotics?

With $600 million in new funding and a $4.1 billion post-money valuation, Bedrock Robotics has significant capital to expand its autonomous construction equipment business.

The company has already reached the milestone of paid autonomous excavator work on live commercial sites. It is now focused on increasing deployments, entering more regions, and broadening the machines and tasks its technology can support.

Its long-term opportunity depends on whether autonomous equipment can consistently improve job-site capacity, safety, and predictability across different contractors and project types.

For the construction industry, Bedrock's progress could signal a shift in how heavy equipment is deployed and coordinated. For investors, the next test is whether the company can turn early commercial adoption into repeatable operations at industrial scale.
