Billee Technologies, a utility management platform for the multifamily sector, has secured $9.15 million in seed funding. The round was led by RET Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on real estate technology.
The platform, co-founded by John Hinckley, aims to simplify utility billing, a traditionally manual and error-prone area for property owners. Using artificial intelligence and automation, Billee reduces reliance on spreadsheets and manual workflows. The system flags billing discrepancies, assists with regulatory compliance, and supports real-time resident queries.
Utility billing often leads to revenue loss for multifamily operators due to incorrect charges and delayed issue detection. Billee’s automation tools help identify such issues early, improve accuracy, and potentially reduce unnecessary costs.
Billee has already been adopted by a growing number of multifamily properties. Some early users reported cost savings of up to 52%. In one case, the platform detected a billing error that had gone unnoticed for more than three years, saving the property owner approximately $240,000 annually.
CEO John Hinckley is a seasoned entrepreneur in the proptech space. He previously founded Modern Message, a platform acquired by RealPage. Many former colleagues from his past ventures have joined Billee, bringing operational insight and industry experience.
RET Ventures Partner John Helm said, “Utility billing has lacked innovation for years. Billee’s analytics-driven approach allows property teams to address issues proactively and improve efficiency.”
With this new capital, Billee plans to expand its research and development team and enhance its core utility billing platform.
