Toronto-based startup Crewscope has secured more than $1 million in pre-seed funding to develop its productivity software for construction and industrial field crews. The round was led by Groundbreak Ventures, with participation from EllisDon, one of Canada’s largest general contractors.
Construction and industrial work remain labor-intensive and time-sensitive. Project delays can result in significant financial overheads. Crewscope’s platform is designed to help site teams align weekly goals with project schedules, track progress in real time, and recognize team performance.
The company positions itself as a field-tested solution, with clients ranging from developers such as Hazelview Investments and Lanterra Developments, to contractors like EllisDon, civil builder Maple Reinders, and mining operations under Amrize/LafargeHolcim.
Crewscope’s platform has been used on critical path trades, where timing and coordination are crucial. Customers have reported improvements including up to 10% in labor productivity, better forecasting, and stronger team retention. Workers have described the system as motivating, engaging, and effective in maintaining focus.
North America is facing a labor shortage, with more than 500,000 skilled construction roles unfilled and an estimated 40% of the workforce expected to retire by 2030. At the same time, construction productivity has steadily declined for decades, widening the gap compared to other industries.
Stakeholders say tools like Crewscope can help address this challenge. “Crewscope is tackling a critical productivity issue with scalable technology,” said Claudia Krywiak, President and CEO of OCI.
For EllisDon, the investment goes beyond software. “It’s about creating a culture of accountability and recognition that drives results,” said Brandon Milner, Chief Information Officer of EllisDon.
Groundbreak Ventures emphasized the impact of Crewscope’s incentive-based approach. “The right incentives aren’t just motivational—they’re a lever for operational change,” said Scott Kaplanis, Managing Partner at Groundbreak Ventures.
Crewscope plans to use the funds to expand across North America, enhance predictive AI capabilities, and help clients reduce schedule risks. “This raise is an important step, but only the beginning,” said Calvin Benchimol, Co-Founder and CEO of Crewscope. “Our goal is to equip crews with tools that bring clarity, purpose, and recognition to their work.”
