US-based startup Lumina is preparing to raise between $20 million and $40 million in its Series A funding round, with plans to expand its electric heavy equipment portfolio.
Founded by Ahmed Shubber in 2021, Lumina focuses on building electric and autonomous construction machinery. The company’s flagship prototype, an electric bulldozer named Moonlander, is designed to match the size of a standard Caterpillar D6 while offering the load capacity of the larger D9 model.
The prototype is still under development, with a commercial release expected in the coming year. Lumina aims to reach $100 million in revenue within two years of beginning operations.
Unlike traditional equipment manufacturers, Lumina plans to both sell and operate its machinery on job sites. This integrated approach is intended to give the company greater control over machine performance and deployment.
In addition to the Moonlander, Lumina is also developing a 100-ton electric excavator called Blade Runner. This machine is expected to include autonomous features and support fully electric operations, similar to its bulldozer prototype.
The demand for cleaner, quieter, and more efficient construction machinery is growing as regulations and sustainability goals evolve. Lumina’s efforts reflect a broader shift in the industry toward electrification and automation.
