London-based construction technology startup Prolo has raised €4.9 million (£4.2 million) in an oversubscribed Seed funding round. The company plans to use the investment to strengthen its sales and marketing efforts while accelerating product development and technology expansion.

The round was led by Triple Point Ventures. It also saw participation from Anamcara Capital, Concrete VC, Foundation Ventures, Haatch, Koro Capital, Love Ventures, and Portfolio Ventures.

Building a Procurement Platform for Smaller Contractors

Founded in 2024, Prolo develops an AI-powered procurement platform for small and medium-sized construction businesses. The platform helps contractors source building materials, equipment, and plant hire at competitive market prices through a digital procurement process.

According to the company, many SME contractors still rely on manual procurement methods. As a result, they spend considerable time requesting quotes from suppliers and often pay higher prices than larger construction firms with stronger purchasing power.

AI Automates Procurement Workflows

Prolo combines artificial intelligence with human expertise to simplify procurement activities. The platform uses Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and voice transcription to process procurement requests and improve purchasing decisions.

Customers can place orders through WhatsApp, email, or phone. After receiving a request, Prolo's platform searches a network of more than 185 suppliers to identify available products and competitive trade rates.

Besides material sourcing, the company also offers payment terms of up to 90 days. This allows contractors to manage cash flow more effectively while taking on larger projects.

Addressing Long-Standing Industry Challenges

The company believes procurement remains one of the least digitized functions in the construction industry. Manual purchasing processes continue to affect project timelines and operating costs, particularly for smaller contractors.

According to the Chartered Institute of Building, supply chain disruptions and manual workflows contribute to delays in around 40% of construction projects, with average delays reaching five months.

Prolo says its platform aims to reduce these inefficiencies by providing procurement support through AI-assisted automation and supplier access.

Founder Brings Previous PropTech Experience

Prolo was founded by James Morris-Manuel, who previously established Virtual Walkthrough, a PropTech startup acquired by Matterport.

Following the acquisition, Morris-Manuel served as Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) at Matterport, where he helped expand the company's regional operations from London.

Commenting on the funding, Morris-Manuel said the company was created to improve pricing transparency and simplify procurement for SME contractors that often lack the scale and buying power of larger construction firms.

Investor Perspective

Triple Point Ventures said construction businesses remain critical to the UK's housing and infrastructure sectors. The investment firm believes procurement is still one of the industry's most manual business functions.

The investor added that Prolo's AI-driven approach could help contractors automate purchasing, improve pricing visibility, and increase operational efficiency.
